Johnny’s War – Volume 2 picks up where the first left off, following the ever-changing and ever-challenging journey of Johnny Pink, a young RAF officer during World War II. The book dives deep into his evolving experience, from the highs of promotion and love to the brutal lows of combat and loss. We follow Johnny as he boards a Sunderland flying boat bound for North Africa, reconnects with old friends, and gradually descends into the heart of war’s emotional chaos. It’s not just a tale of battles and bombers, though. It’s a story about growing up too fast, about finding courage in the unlikeliest places, and about the lasting scars—visible or not—that war carves into people.

Reading this was like being dropped straight into the 1940s, with all its smoke, salt, fear, and tea. The writing is unapologetically immersive. That first vivid attack on the Sunderland—my stomach actually turned. What caught me most, though, were the quiet in-between moments: Johnny’s chats with his mates, his unspoken grief, his longing for home. The author doesn’t just want us to know the facts of war. They want us to feel it. The fear, the camaraderie, the occasional absurdity of army life—it all came through loud and clear.

At times, the pacing slowed with heavy detail, especially in technical sections, but then it would slam you with a gut-punch of emotion or action that left you breathless. And I felt Johnny’s emotional shifts, while often believable, occasionally moved too quickly without enough inner reflection. But those are small things. What really stayed with me was how the war slowly changed him, not in a dramatic, movie-style way, but in that creeping, quiet erosion of innocence. It’s those little truths, told plainly, that make this book more than just historical fiction. It becomes personal.

Johnny’s War – Volume 2 is not just for military history buffs or fans of wartime dramas. It’s for anyone who wants to understand the human side of war—what it costs, how it twists people, and how, sometimes, even in the darkest places, you find light. I’d recommend this book to readers who love character-driven narratives, rich historical detail, and emotional truth. It’s not a page-turner in the thriller sense, but it sticks to your bones.

Hi there, hope all are well and happy.

Just a few updates.

I am continuing to get better, I had my meds updated, and I have had an inhaler added; it works well as and when I need it. I have not yet been out on the Trike, but I have been tinkering to make sure it's ready to go when I feel up to it. I have increased my walks, and I am not so short of breath after. The weather is getting better, the days are later longer now. I hope to start riding around the end of this month, short tides, to begin with, suck it and see.

 

The New Book, " The Company of stonemasons, book 2 "The journey" is finished and will be off to the editors when she has a slot for it.

 Book 1 The Chichester diamond Book 1 is doing very well. I am pleased, and I hope book 2 will do as well.

To give me a rest and time to recharge my brain before starting to research, book 3 will be set in Canterbury. I am revisiting a short story I have written and finished some time back called apples; it's a short story that I tried writing in the third person. I will make it into a longer story after reading it; tell me it should be longer with more infomashion on the characters, so this is my next project. 

 

Book 3 of the company of stonemasons, as I have said, will be set in Cababery, so I will have to be spending some time there researching hopeful when all is opened up again Hotels and such. And I will have some reading to get into and maps which I have already brought. I have a few storylines and ideas, but I have no main plot, but it will come. Well, that's it. I hope all are well out there and keeping safe.

IThis last month, I have been writing every day completing a chapter every two days. I notest I was getting anxious. So I have had a break from it today and this weekend. But it's not just the book. Its a build-up over the last few months. I had become very apathetic and stop riding, I have no been on the bike for over a month.s. It's getting to me, and I am a quit level head when it comes to life. I am very self-aware. I am fortunate this way, so I recognise my own state of mind quickly. It must be hell ou there for all them with responsibly and with children. I finished a chapter yesterday and then said that it no more for three days and I spent most of yesterday working hard in the garden removing 4 Box bushes that have died of blight. And bludy hard it was to I was as stiff as a board this morning. But it's a great thing to do. Working with nature is great for the mind. Fucks up your body but hay I am 66. But I still have not got back my want to cycle yeat. I can report today a change LOL. And it's not good today out there ist raining so I thought I would write some things on here again, so started a thread on religion and history. always a good one to provoke a discussion. and this and I hope it helps to know that it's getting to everyone this virus. I am still somewhat anxious in cashing it, a full does as it would probably kill me. and I have my dates wedding coming up soon too, I have been and will continue to be anxious that I will make it on the day., can't help that its Natale. and we are all worried about our loved ones. my Son in Spain I have not seen for a long time. And my good wife Helen is still working looking after Children in a child centre, so out there in the firing line. and Life goes on. May go out in the garden again it's starting to Look OK out there. So be careful try to be safe and be well.
